About Dr Mahmoud Wagih

I’m a consultant anaesthetist and intensivist practising in London’s independent hospitals. I trained at Ain Shams University in Cairo, where I also taught as an Associate Lecturer, before moving to the UK in 2004. I became a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine in 2010.

I worked as a consultant at Wrexham Maelor Hospital in North Wales and then at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow. There, I was Clinical Director of the Department of Anaesthesia from 2016 to 2021, leading a department of 54 doctors through the COVID-19 pandemic while caring for critically ill patients in intensive care.

Today, my practice focuses on anaesthesia for spinal and orthopaedic surgery, alongside a wide range of other procedures. Arabic is my first language, and many of my patients come from the Middle East.

Outside medicine, I’m a PADI-qualified diver and underwater photographer and a keen trekker; Kilimanjaro was a highlight. I also hold a Certificate in Egyptology from the University of Manchester, an interest that keeps me connected to my Cairo roots.
