Anaesthesia for spinal surgery and scoliosis
Spinal surgery needs careful anaesthetic planning: positioning, monitoring of the spinal cord during surgery, blood conservation and a clear plan for pain relief afterwards. I anaesthetise for adult spinal surgery and for paediatric and adolescent scoliosis lists in London.
What I provide
- Detailed pre-operative assessment, including review of heart, lung and other medical conditions
- General anaesthesia tailored to spinal cord monitoring when your surgeon uses it, often total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA)
- Safe positioning for surgery lying face down
- Blood conservation strategies agreed with your surgical team
- A pain relief plan that starts in theatre and continues on the ward
- Experience in critical care, to support patients who need closer monitoring after surgery
Children and young people
I anaesthetise children and adolescents on scoliosis lists. I hold European Paediatric Advanced Life Support (EPALS) certification and Level 3 safeguarding training. I’ll talk with your child and with you before surgery, in English or Arabic.
Before your operation
I’ll usually meet you before surgery to discuss your anaesthetic. If you have significant medical conditions, an earlier consultation may be helpful. See Pre-operative assessment.
